My sister Elaine and I had the honour of sharing our farm photo project tonight at a harvest gala co-hosted by the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Red River Exhibition Association. It was a really great opportunity for us to share a selection of photos and stories about our family farm. We would like to thank the organizers for inviting us to take part, and the farming community for being so welcoming and supportive.

My Mom and I just got back from a 16-day trip to New Zealand and Australia. It turned out to be a very random trip (in my opinion, the best kind), with visits to family, old friends, new friends, farm and city. The following photos are a few visual highlights.

Drove out to the country today for my Mom’s birthday and a family dinner… lots to eat, lots of hugs and a short walk outside taking photos. It was a perfect autumn day today — so sunny, crisp air and lots of leaves crunching beneath my feet. I climbed to the top of a stack of bales for old times sake and then wandered through the maze of corrals, climbing over fences until I reached open pasture.

This series of images (taken on August 20, 2011) has sparked a new project for me which I plan to officially start, with the help of my sister and fellow photographer Elaine, in January, 2012. It is hard to explain just how special these family portraits are to me – I took these as my Dad and brother were trying to decide whether they would get rained out before finishing the field of ryegrass that they were combining. You can almost hear the conversation looking at the photos.
