If ever you find yourself in Miami, Florida, USA, a must-see is the Wynwood Art District. With over 70 art galleries, and one of the largest open-air street-art installations in the world, it is full of creative inspiration.
Before exploring the area, we went for lunch at the Wynwood Kitchen & Bar. We highly recommend it, both for the quality and taste of the food, and for the interior and exterior design. You are essentially surrounded by art by Shepard Fairey and Christian Awe. It’s really amazing.
Close to the restaurant, there is an art gallery, as well as an inner courtyard with several installations, all in a myriad of styles. That’s best done on foot. After that, we recommend renting a Citi Bike (there’s a station right near by), and then touring the rest of it on bike. It’s so much fun rolling up and down the streets and back lanes, looking for warehouse walls that catch your eye. It seems as though almost every wall has been covered, and the variety of styles and sheer talent is mind-blowing.
For a virtual tour of the Wynwood Walls, and to find out about the artists, you can go this website.
