A conference in Edmonton

This past week, I attended my first CCAE Conference. The Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) has members from universities, colleges and institutes from across the country and focuses on people working within the areas of alumni relations, communications and marketing, fundraising (development), external relations and student recruitment.

The conference was interesting, and I caught some good sessions… in particular Erin O’Neil from McMaster University who talked about shaping relationships with young alumni, and Joella Gencher and Shana Szikman from McGill who shared the details around their summer send-off program. In our downtime, my coworker Carisa and I took some time to explore a bit of Edmonton. We walked to the Muttart Conservatory, went for a run along the river (ending it with 200 steps straight up the valley), managed to squeeze in a delectable breakfast at the Duchess Bake Shop and one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten at Corso 32. Here are a few photos from the trip…

Great photos K. It sounds like a really interesting conference and a great chance to spend a bit of time elsewhere. Between this and your sketching post you’re getting me all inspired.

Thanks Dan. As with all conferences, it depended on which speakers I chose to go listen to, but all around, I learned some new things. It was definitely fun to explore a different city, especially with a friend/coworker along. Glad to hear I had a hand in inspiring you — speaking of sketching, I really recommend checking out this book called “Drawing Ideas” — every page is an inspiration: http://www.drawingideasbook.com/book.html
