My rough theme for the week was ‘Discoveries’. To be totally honest, it was actually ‘Found Objects’ which eventually turned into ‘Discoveries’ because I couldn’t find an interesting object every day that I thought worth photographing. I had to sketch one of my discoveries because by the time I got around to photographing it, it had blown away in the wind (oops). My favourite discovery of the week was an art piece of Erika Dueck’s (a student at the University of Manitoba School of Fine Art). It was called the “The Ephemeral Mind”, was made of mixed media and quite simply, blew my mind. A tiny portion of it is shown in my Day 25 photo. The end of the week was spent at the 2013 national agm for the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC). I’ll be writing a separate blog post on that, because there is too much to talk about here.
On another note, I am now half way through my 365two project. So far, it hasn’t turned out to be what I first envisioned but it has still been mostly rewarding. I’m glad that I took the approach that I did, and have allowed myself to mix media, quality levels, etc. However I’m disappointed that I haven’t stuck to my idea of doing a project every week, and showing the creative process behind it. I think I only did that on Week 1. Also I really miss the daily comments, critique and motivation that I got when I did my first 365 project and posted it to Flickr. There is something to be said for feedback — especially on a long project. All in all though, I’m happy and plan to keep it going until Week 52.
And, unrelated to the topic for the week, a photo that I took on the same night as the feather. If there’s one thing I love photographing, it’s branches.
Picture # 2 (day 177) looks like Karen at a much earlier time.
Hi Gordie,
You’re right… that’s me on my tricycle.
Karen
I love the way that the project has evolved from where it started to where it is today. I’m sure it will keep evolving too. ” “Found objects and discoveries” is such a beautiful theme. The little things often come out. I also love the peek into your life as a tricycle riding hoodlum and through the peepholes into diners, offices, you name it.
Well done on making it half way! I’m looking forward to the next 26 weeks!
Thanks! You know I’m sure you’re right — that it will keep evolving as the year goes on. It’s good to be reminded of that. In the other longterm projects that I’ve done, that was exactly what happened. I had an idea in my head at the beginning, which ultimately turned into something else. I need to enjoy the journey and the end point — whatever it may be.
I like getting glimpses into other people’s lives through their photos too. I only post some of them on here, but if you want more slice-of-Karenia’s-life, find me on Instagram (@KareniaNiedz).
