Just over a week ago, my sister, two of my nieces and I joined Mom and Dad at an old time dance in Portage La Prairie. I had so much fun… the most fun I’ve had (dancing) in a while. Many years ago now, my Dad (and sometimes my Mom and brother Warren) taught me to waltz and polka. At one point I also knew how to two-step, but its going to take some practice before I remember it properly again. Anyways, it was really fun to hang out with my family, dance for a couple of hours and spin round and round the dance floor with my Dad.
My Mom and Dad are incredible dancers who almost seem to float across the floor. It’s always so special to watch them… they’ve been dancing together now for 50+ years so they are very in sync. By the end of the evening, I was starting to feel as though I was getting the hang of floating too — but only when dancing with Dad. By the way, dancing is tiring! Especially polkas :)
Yup, special.
The other neat thing was that the band for the evening included Mark Morriseau on fiddle. Mark is an old friend from my fiddle contest days. I hadn’t seen him for at least 15 years, so it was fun to have a good chit chat while they were on break.
ps. These are all blurry pictures because we didn’t want to stop dancing for photos!
